From meetings under the blue clock, encounters down the market, making memories with the family, falling in love on nights out... Stoke-on-Trent City Centre, our Hanley, is full of secrets, stories lost in time or ones we aren’t privy to... yet.
But today its voices are ready to be discovered, its stories waiting in the brickwork.
And its up to you to find them, each and every one.
Welcome to The Secret City, an audio walking tour adventure of Stoke-on-Trent City Centre.
how does the secret city work?
The Secret City is a self-led audio walking tour taking place outdoors around Stoke-on-Trent City Centre, also known as Hanley.
There are nine stories to discover on the trail, but only eight are marked on the Map. Using the Map and Guide’s instructions you’ll need to discover them in order, from one to eight, and listen carefully to the clues to discover the location of the final one.
The trail takes around one hour to complete, depending on your walking pace, and you can take part at any time of day, seven days a week, NTIL 24 October 2021.
Its completely free and you don’t need a ticket to take part - just a smart phone with a camera and internet access (for scanning QR codes on the trail), a pair of headphones and The Secret City Map.
The Secret City is funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and Stoke-on-Trent Business Improvement District (BID).
