A two-part theatrical takeover of Staffordshire pubs, The Rhapsodies & The Inn was a series of pop-up stories accompanied with music toured across regional watering holes in July 2015, followed by a full scale theatre production performed by cast of 4 and a live band.

With performances in over 20 pubs and 3 sell out shows, The Rhapsodies & The Inn cemented our love for Stoke and Staffordshire audiences and immersive work.

Funded by National Lottery through Arts Council England and Staffordshire County Council.

 The Rhapsodies

A stranger has appeared at the bar, with a pint in hand and a musician in tow. He wants to tell you a tale if you’ll listen. Ready? …

Quick fire tales of the peculiar and the unusual inspired by local myths and legends from Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire spun by characters from The Inn.

‘It’s been a mundane day but the Potboilers have totally enriched my day…. the lot of you, you have lifted my spirits.’ Dennis, The Bulls Head, Burslem

Potboiler is an emerging theatre company based in Stoke-on-Trent which creates spontaneous and exuberant storytelling and live music events inspired by the stories of the local area and its people. Potboiler pop up in local gathering spaces, from your pub, to your café, to your working men’s club, with a musician or two in tow, compelling onlookers with audacious storytelling, heartfelt and sincere and always with a good dose of irreverence .

The Inn

The Inn’s recently departed Landlord has been spotted haunting the urinals but Landlady Stella is determined the karaoke will carry on…. It’s going to be anything but a quiet pint at The Inn tonight.

Grab yourself a drink and gather at The Inn to meet a community of the peculiar and the inebriated, as they struggle to ride out a perfect storm in a pint glass.

A live music-infused evening of drama and storytelling that takes over your local, drinks far too much than is polite and refuses to go home.

‘Very funny, hugely enjoyable and incredibly well acted. Better than almost everything else I’ve seen locally in the past four years of living here.’ Audience member
